Thousands Affected by Water Mains Disruption in North Glasgow - MSP Seeks Assurances
Friday, 18 June 2010

Following reports that much of the north of Glasgow is without water, Glasgow SNP MSP Bob Doris has asked Scottish Water for assurances that drinking water will be provided whilst the problem is ongoing. Two major burst water pipes on Alexandra Parade and Garscube Road have caused widespread disruption to the city’s water supply.

Mr Doris said:

“I have this morning spoken to Judy Wakker, Public and Community Affairs Manager at Scottish Water, and she has confirmed that emergency work is under way to repair to leaks.

“I have also received assurances from Scottish Water that a working partnership arrangement with Glasgow City Council will come into effect if the problem is not resolved within 6 hours. They will provide bottled water to customers at that stage and I have highlighted with them that the needs of elderly, young families and other vulnerable people will need to be catered for first.

“I have advised constituents to call the Scottish Water emergency number on 0845 6018855 if their supply does not resume later this afternoon and I will be monitoring the situation with Scottish Water until it is resolved."
